The Proteas and VKB Knights fast bowler, Marchant de Lange, has signed a three-year contract to play for the English County Championship side, Glamorgan.

De Lange did not meet the criteria to qualify as Kolpak player, but will, however, be joining Glamorgan as a non-overseas player.

He has ended his international career with the Proteas for the time being and if he were to return to the national side, he would need to give up his county deal - or re-register as an overseas player.

It is believed that he is not lost to Knights cricket seeing that he has at least a year left on his contract.

De Lange finished the season at the second leading wicket taker in South Africa across all competitions.

The Knights skipper, Pite van Biljon, told OFM Sport that De Lange didn’t just contribute to the side on the field.

“He’s a big personality in the change room and his obviously one of the big guns you take onto the field.

“He’s not afraid to say his say and speaks his mind. He is very honest and open.

“We sat down in the preseason and we had a whole chat about an open and honest policy. He definitely enforces that and it’s a great thing for the team because we have a fairly young team.

“Marchant coming from the Titans probably helped us set the right tone and the right way to go about things”.

De Lange could make his debut in the opening Championship match against Northamptonshire at Northampton on Friday.
