The soon to be new Proteas assistant coach, Malibongwe Maketa, is looking forward to the first-ever day-night Test to be played in South Africa.

The Proteas will face Zimbabwe from 26 December in a Test at the St Georges Park in Port Elizabeth in what won’t just be a pink-ball Test, but it will also be a four day Test.

Maketa conceded that pink ball cricket is the unknown, however, it is an exciting time for the sport in South Africa.

“It’s really the field of the unknown and what will happen.

“There are questions like how will the pink ball react under the lights.

“It’s a bit of excitement, with a bit of concern, but mostly excitement.

“It will be my first assignment with the Proteas. At home, a pink ball Test.

“It can’t get any better than that I suppose.”

Meanwhile, the opening batsman, Dean Elgar, just needs another 44 runs during that Test to possibly end 2017 as the leading run scorer in the calendar year.
