Despite a competitive target of 239 runs, which included an unbeaten knock of 110 runs by batsman Patrick Kruger, the VKB Knights were yet again left their heads in their hands as they suffered a massive 8-wicket defeat to the Cobras.

The Knights travelled to Newlands in Cape Town for their 6th One Day Cup fixture and hopefully their first win after a torrid start to the campaign but 37 runs off a single over by Cobras captain JP Duminy quickly dashed those hopes.

Duminy then set Newlands alight with a unbeaten 70 off 37 balls which included a record 37 runs off an Eddie Leie over that went 6-6-6-6-2-5nb-6.

The Knights remain bottom of the table and next face the Titans in Kimberley tomorrow.

The Highveld Lions in their turn were bundled out for just 176 runs in their One Day Cup tie with the Titans after spinner Tabraiz Shamsi demolished the Lions batting line-up claiming 5 wickets for just 40 runs in 10 overs.

Shamsi's performance was key in what would become a 5 wicket bonus-point win for Mark Boucher's side.
