The Proteas Women’s team claimed a five-nil series white-wash on Monday after beating Bangladesh by six wickets in the fifth and final One-Day International which was played at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.


South Africa won the toss this morning and asked the Tigers to have a bat first.

In what was once of the team from the subcontinents better performances on tour and they managed to score 166/9 in their allotted 50-overs.

The captain Rumana Ahmed top-scored for the visitors with patient 74 off 123 deliveries before being caught by Trisha Chetty off the bowling of Marizanne Kapp.

The opening batter and wicketkeeper, Shamima Sultana, was the only other player to give the South Africans bowlers any headaches with a bat, with a fine knock of 53, which included 5 fours and a six.

Shabnim Ismail was the pick of the Proteas bowlers and retuned figures of 17/3 in her nine overs. Kapp in her turn was also excellent with the ball and claimed two scalps in her 10 overs for figures of 21/2.

Lizelle Lee was once again in sublime form with a rapid 44 runs off 49 deliveries, but it was the youngster, Laura Wolvaardt, who was the star with the willow.

The opening batter carried her bat throughout the innings for a knockout of 70*. In the process she smashed 7 fours and a six.

The captain, Dané van Niekerk, in her turn scored 29 runs before being stumped by Sultana of the bowling of Ahmed.

The three-match T20 International series starts on Thursday, 17 May, at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.

The second and third T20 International will be played in Bloemfontein on 19 and 20 May.
