The former Bloemfontein golfer, Dean Burmester, will be teeing it up at Major for the first time in his career when he plays at the 2018 US Open at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in the town of Southampton on Long Island, New York.
Burmester earned the right to play at the year’s second Major competing in the 36-home international sectional qualifier at Walton Heath Golf Club and secured one of the 14 available spots.
This after completing four gruelling days of golf in the Italian Open from Thursday to Sunday last week, where he finished on eleven under par for a share of 30th along with his fellow South African, Thomas Aiken.
A week prior, the Grey College old boy finished on nine under par during the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in England.
This comes as a perfect belated birthday present for the Zimbabwean-born player, who turned 29 on Saturday. Burmester moved from Bloemfontein to George in the Southern Cape at the beginning of April, where he now calls Fancourt his home course.
The 2018 US Open at the Shinnecock Hills will be played from 14 to 17 June.
