Brandon Stone, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen Shaun Norris, Dylan Fritelli as well as legends like Ernie Els and Retief Goosen are part of a 12 player strong South African contingent that will be contesting at the 2018 Open Championships.
Of the South Africans teeing off on Thursday, Els and Oosthuizen are the only players to previously have won the Championship.
Els claimed the honors on 2 occasions in 2002 at Muirfield and again a decade later in 2012 when the tournament was hosted by the Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Oosthuizen in his turn was crowned Champion Golfer in 2010 when he claimed a 7 shot victory with a stellar 16 under par total.
The South Africans will also feature 2 debutants in the form of Erik van Rooyen and amateur golfer Jovan Rebula.
The 147th Open Championships will tee off at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland on Thursday morning.
