Lesotho PM fails to appear in court | News Article

Lesotho's Prime Minister Thomas Thabane failed to appear in the Maseru Magistrate's Court on Friday, on charges of killing his estranged wife, Lipolelo Thabane, the BBC reported.

His son told the British Broadcasting Corporation that Thabane was receiving medical treatment in South Africa.

Lipolelo was gunned down in June 2017, two days before Thabane's inauguration as prime minister of the tiny landlocked country.

The couple had been living separately since 2012 and were going through a protracted divorce.

Two months later Thabane married Maeasiah, who is also charged with Lipolelo's murder. She has been released on bail and is due to appear in the Maseru Magistrate's Court on March 17.

She is also charged with the attempted murder of Thato Sibolla, who survived the same shooting in which Lipolelo was gunned down in Maseru on June 14, 2017.
