Ntombela: "First task to unite women" | News Article

Pretoria - The newly appointed Deputy President of the African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) says her first task is to unite women.

Free State Social Development MEC Sisi Ntombela says she is still shocked by her election and told OFM News that she wondered if she would be able to meet the needs of all the women who voted for her.

Ntombela was speaking this morning at the ANCWL’s national conference in Pretoria where she was elected unopposed.

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini was elected the new president.

The results of the league's top five leaders were announced in the early hours of this morning after over 2 700 delegates stayed up for hours to cast their votes.

Ntombela says it is evident that the league believes in her ability.

Dlamini defeated former league president Angie Motshekga with 1,537 votes to 1,081, having lost to her at the League's 2008 Mangaung National Congress.

The Secretary-General position was taken by Meokgo Matuba the League's Provincial Secretary in the North West Province. Eastern Cape Transport MEC Wezile Tikana will be Deputy Secretary-General with International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabana as Treasurer General.

Additional Members of the League's National Executive Committee will further be elected this morning.
