Welkom - A 32-year-old woman from Welkom was arrested and is expected to appear in court today after she was found in possession of more than R1 million in cash – not under her mattress, but in her geyser.
The Hawks in the Free State, with the Organised Crime Unit and Crime Intelligence, reacting on a tip-off, confiscated 50kg of gold-bearing material, gold possessing equipment and the cash.
Police spokesperson, S’fiso Nyakane, says they are expecting to make more arrests in connection with the case. The suspect will face charges of acquisition, possession and disposal of unwrought precious metal.
