More attention needed at primary schools in FS | News Article
Tate Makgoe

Bloemfontein - More language teachers are needed in the Free State Province, according to the Provincial MEC of Education, Tate Makgoe.

Speaking at the handing over of books to rural schools in the province, Makgoe said poor performance at primary schools, the shortage of language teachers, and inadequate libraries at schools in the rural areas are issues that are soon going to be addressed. He said there remain a need to improve the quality of education at lower grades more particularly in impoverished communities.

“We want to focus primarily on primary education. We are already doing well as a province at high school level, but we are realising that our primary schools are not doing so well, and we’re therefore going to focus on primary schools."

Makgoe says the department will build libraries at primary schools without libraries, and improve Information Communication Technology (ICT) at these schools.
