Mahikeng - The town that Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, will be visiting in North West this week was chosen due to the large number of violent service delivery protests it is dogged by.

This is according to her spokesperson, Oupa Segalwe. Mkhwebane is scheduled to address the Provincial Legislature in Mahikeng today, after which she will proceed to nearby Madibogo and surrounding areas in the Ratlou Local Municipality. Segalwe says the Public Protector intends to hold talks with a variety of stakeholders in the province.

“She has been monitoring public sentiment on a number of platforms, from social media to radio programmes, and she was concerned about some of the things being said. So, she has availed herself to engage with the people to understand what it is they are concerned about and also offer clarity of some sort,” Segalwe added.

Mahikeng and Madibogo will be the tenth and eleventh towns Mkhwebane visits since the nationwide tour started in mid-February. She has already been to Johannesburg, Ratanda, Thohoyandou, Polokwane, Nelspruit, Ermelo, Pietermaritzburg, Bloemfontein and Thaba Nchu.
