Four new schools to be built in FS─── CATHY DLODLO 15:37 Mon, 27 Mar 2017
Bloemfontein - Four new schools, including a special school, will be built in the Free State during the 2017/18 financial year to the tune of more than R66.6 million.
Education MEC Tate Makgoe said during his budget speech in the Free State Legislature this is to address the growing demand for space in schools and to replace buildings which were built with inappropriate material.
Construction of a primary school in Tweeling and Bothaville are expected to start this year.
A secondary school in Frankfort and a special school in Trompsburg are also on his department's to-do list for this year.
The department has been under administration for more than a year and Finance MEC Elzabe Rockman has said the department’s woes are partly caused by its growing salary bill. A process of verification of employees – to deal with ghost workers – was completed last year.
