Bloemfontein - A high speed collision between two VW Polos has left one person critically injured after occurring at the intersection of Rudolf Greyling and Meadows Road in Grasland, Bloemfontein, this morning.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Chris Botha, says paramedics found the man trapped underneath the car when they arrived on the scene.

Botha says members of the fire department spent over an hour trying to extract him from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life.

“It took the fire department quite a while to extricate him. It was very technical extrication. He was stabilised at the scene and then transported by the Netcare 911 paramedics to a specialised hospital for further care. There were two occupants in the other vehicle. They sustained relatively moderate injuries. They were treated on the scene and transported through to another hospital for further care,” he said.

Botha said the exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events is still speculative at this stage and will form part of the police investigation.
