Senwes launches solar energy project in Hennenman | News Article

Bloemfontein - Senwes is launching its first solar pilot project in Hennenman in the Free State today.

The Senwes CEO, Francois Strydom, told OFM News that the R20 million project took four to five months to complete after the company launched a similar project at their head office in North West.

The Senwes buildings in Klerksdorp and carports are covered with 2392 solar panels with a total capacity of 753.48kW.

Strydom says energy capacity in rural towns remains a big problem and they have had to look at alternative energy sources outside of their core businesses. He says this latest silo project will benefit the town in the long run.

“The whole idea of the project is about the energy capacity, but also the sustainability of the environment, the sustainability of coal, agriculture and food over the long run. The more sustainable your business units, the more job opportunities you create in the town. All the people that work here are from Hennenman,” says Strydom.
