Bloemfontein - The case against EFF leader, Julius Malema, who is accused of contravening the 1956 Riotous Assemblies Act, has been postponed until October 27.

Malema briefly appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Monday morning after he first called on supporters to occupy unoccupied land at the party's elective conference in Bloemfontein on December 16, 2014. He made similar remarks in Newcastle in June last year during the party's freedom charter rally.

The state on Monday requested that the matter be postponed until October. Malema's legal team will now approach the Constitutional Court to challenge the constitutionality of the act.

The Free State chairperson for the EFF, Kgotso Morapela, spoke to OFM News shortly after Malema’s appearance.

“The purpose of today was to come and show support to the leader of the EFF. What he is being accused of, is the heart of the EFF, that is our struggle. He’s trial is our trial also. We need land as black people, we want to ensure that each and every South African citizen, particularly black people, are afforded the opportunity to own land,” says Morapela.
