NW: No arrests after attack on 51-year-old farmer and his child | News Article

Rustenburg - The police in Rustenburg are on the lookout for three suspects in connection with an attack on a 51-year-old farmer near Rustenburg yesterday.

Police spokesperson, Pelonomi Makau, says when the farmer arrived at his Waterkloof home, the three suspects allegedly approached the farmer and his child and held them at gunpoint. She says the two were then taken inside the house, after which a fight ensued between the farmer and one of the suspects. They then overpowered the farmer, shot him in his arm and ransacked the house, according to Makau. The suspects later fled on foot. Makau says a cellphone, a pair of sneakers, and a bag were stolen in the process…

“We can confirm that the police in Rustenburg are investigating a case of house robbery after the attack on a 51-year-old man. The farmer was later taken to hospital for medical treatment. Investigations into the matter continues,” says Makau.

The safety coordinator for Afriforum, Marius Müller, earlier told OFM News that the farmer, whose name is not yet known, didn’t sustain any serious injuries and was still receiving treatment in a local hospital yesterday. He said the farmer also had guests staying with him at his house at the time of the attack. They managed to escape and were not harmed, according to Müller.

The attack follows shortly after a 46-year-old farm owner was allegedly shot in the head in front of his mother. Hanno Steyn died next to his mother Zachie who was tied up on a bed in a room in the house. The three suspects later fled the scene in the same vehicle they arrived in. Premier Supra Mahumapelo condemned the incident.
