Public Works official nabbed for corruption─── MARK STEENBOK 16:06 Mon, 26 Jun 2017
Bloemfontein - A 31-year-old administrative officer from the Department of Public Works, who was arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe of R80 000 from a service provider, appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court today.
Hawks spokesperson, S’fiso Nyakane, says Lefa Melesi allegedly played a vital role in a service provider being awarded a tender to fix a roof at a Correctional Service building. Nyakane says Melesi will appear in court again on July 14.
“The matter was reported to the Hawks who subsequently set a trap which led to his arrest upon receiving the bribe at the Showgate Shopping Complex in Bloemfontein. The R80 000 cash, two cellphones as well as a VW Polo GTI was seized. He was granted bail of R10 000 and the case was postponed to July 14 for further investigation,” says Nyakane.
