FS road safety operation underway amidst N8 increasing accidents─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:40 Mon, 24 Jul 2017
The Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport is embarking on safety operation programme focusing on reducing the number of fatalities in the province.
The department’s Traffic Chief Director, Nako Ramotsoto, says the number of fatalities on the N8 between Bloemfontein and Botshabelo are increasingly alarming. He says the department is to intensity speed limitations and the visibility of traffic officers particularly on this route. This comes soon after a horrific bus crash that claimed eight lives and left 51 injured.
Ramotsoto adds that the department is soon going to engage the Interstate Bus Lines with regards to the their drivers and the state of their vehicles.
He says they are expect high traffic volumes as of today as schools have reopened and that the safety operation programme will also help in this regard.
