Bloemfontein farmer to appear in court over stock theft | News Article

Reinhardt Verster, a suspect in the theft of 20 cattle worth about R140 000, will be appearing in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court next Thursday.

This comes after the 34-year-old local farmer’s first court appearance was postponed for seven days in his absence yesterday. According to the SAPS’ Lorraine Earle, the suspect allegedly offered to sell the cattle at an auction but failed to pay the owner…

“When the farmer asked him for his money, he (Verster) did not keep to his end of the deal and that is when the complainant opened up a case of stock theft. Warrant Officer Skroef Schroeder, of the Stock Theft Unit, received the case and tracked him down whilst he was in hospital. So when he was released from hospital he was arrested,” says Earle.

The suspect is in hospital and will remain under police custody until a formal bail application, according to Earle.
