Green competition puts municipalities under spotlight─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:18 Tue, 29 Aug 2017
Municipalities’ water and waste management practices and their energy efficiency are some of the elements that will come under the spotlight today at the Greenest Municipality Competition awards to be held in Bloemfontein.
The Department of Environmental Affairs’ spokesperson, Albi Modise, says Deputy Minister, Barbara Thomson, will lead the event. He says the competition is inclusive of all metro and local municipalities across the country.
“The hosting of the awards this year in Bloemfontein signifies our commitment as the South African Government to also ensure that, as we approach and move towards a greener resource-efficient future, municipalities become part and parcel of the growth towards the green economy, but also embrace the clean environment and amongst others the use of renewable energy.”
The event will be held at the President Hotel from 08:00 - 12:00.
