Brandwag Housing Project: Mlamleli criticised | News Article

The Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metro Municipality, Olly Mlamleli, once again came under attack for the Brandwag Housing Project during the Special Council Sitting today.

It is alleged that the municipality is pumping money into this social housing project which does not benefit deserving Mangaung residents. Members of the opposition demanded answers on where the municipality gets money to fund FSSHC when they are already facing lawsuits on outstanding millions still owed to several contractors.

Responding to questions on the matter, MMC of Housing, Cllr David Pongola, said there are legal battles involved where some of the apartments are still occupied by people who do not qualify for housing subsidy and this hinders development in this project.

Opposition parties lambasted the Metro that seven years down the line the Brandwag Social Housing project is still marred by unanswered questions, rumours of “illegal occupants”, and dilapidated buildings.

ANA's Papie Mokoena says over R29 million in this project is still unaccounted for.

The social housing project has been developed for people with an income bracket of R1500-R7500.

The EFF and the DA further requested the municipality not to give out more grants into the projects although they are municipal apartments.
