Four in custody after robbing Theunissen fuel station | News Article

A group of suspected armed robbers who used explosives to blast open a drop safe and fled with a sizeable amount of money at a fuel station in Theunissen is behind bars.

Free State police spokesperson, Mamello Mokhuoane, says four suspects briefly appeared in the Theunissen Magistrate’s Court yesterday following the armed business robbery more than two weeks ago.

It is alleged that the heavily armed men approached one of the local fuel stations on October 2 at about 04:00. They were armed with rifles and pistols. They blasted open a drop safe inside and fled the scene in a car. Mokhuoane says the Welkom and Thabong Trio Task Team managed to arrest Springkaan Nlambiza Ntela (35), Daniel Padi Moeketsi (32), Pule John Mokubo (29), and Rediletse James Leephile Segopolo (29) at the weekend. This after an investigation was launched into the matter. Mokhuoane did not disclose where the suspects were arrested due to the sensitivity of the investigation.

The case against the accused was postponed to next Monday (October 23) when the suspects are expected to apply for bail. A fifth suspect is still at large.

Thabong Cluster Commander, Maj-Gen. Apaphia Modise, applauded police members for their thorough investigation.
