The final report on the OFM News exposé regarding complaints about hygiene and staff apathy at Pelonomi Hospital is expected to be released today.
This follows after provincial health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, said he will respond to detailed media questions today. The department investigated the complaints after an elderly woman, Victoria Nel, who was suffering from a perforated ulcer, was admitted and put in a storeroom. Photos and a video – that showed a Pelonomi staff member watching movies while on duty - has been circulating on social media. This is while Nel was lying there without receiving any medical assistance.
Nel’s daughter, Desiree, says they did not receive feedback from the department with regards to the final report. The preliminary report, which was released last week stated that the movie-watching nurse was suspended without pay.
