Two boys, believed to be 11 years old, were hospitalised this afternoon after they were struck by lightning at their primary school in Potchefstroom.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, says that paramedics were dispatched to the incident at approximately 13h28. Upon arrival, paramedics found the two boys in the first aid room in the school. He adds paramedics assessed the boys and found that one was in a serious condition while the other had sustained moderate injuries.

Both boys had sustained large burn wounds. Paramedics treated the boys and provided the seriously injured with pain relief medication before they were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
