The DA in the Free State is laying charges against an ANC councillor, Jerrie Moitse, who has allegedly connected illegal water pipes to his home in Fauresmith.

Upon further investigation, it was found that four homes were connected to the illegal pipelines which ran from the water reservoir straight to these houses.

According to the DA's James Letuka, residents have been without water for two months now due to the non-payment of the Kopanong Municipality to Bloem Water.

OFM News spoke to one of the residents, who chooses to remain anonymous. He says they have been paying their water accounts, and does not understand how the municipality can be over R200 million in debt.

Letuka says this is illegal.

In an interview with OFM News, Moitse acknowledged that he has an illegal water connection to his house. He says the Kopanong Municipality legally laid the water lines to his and six other families' homes.

Moitse says he will be taking legal action against the DA, as no unauthorised person is allowed access to power stations or water reservoirs. The town of Fauresmith has been without water for two months now due to the non-payment of the Kopanong Municipality to Bloem Water.
