Three accused between the ages of 26 and 35 will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court in North West tomorrow on charges of house robbery and kidnapping.

This is according to the police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, and follows an incident shortly after midnight on Monday. A 20-year-old woman was allegedly robbed by three assailants in her house in Morolong Section in Hebron, close to Brits. According to Myburgh the victim was asleep when the suspects gained entry into her house, and threatened her with a firearm and knife. They allegedly took cash, a cellphone and tablet. After the house robbery, she was kidnapped and dropped off unharmed at a graveyard in Hebron.

“After seeking help, the community started a search for the suspect’s vehicle and on the same day the vehicle, as well as two suspects, were found and arrested by the community, who handed them over to the police, unharmed,” Myburgh added.

In a statement issued today, the North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, expressed her appreciation to the community of Hebron for their assistance that led to bringing the perpetrators to book.

She said this incident is a perfect example of how police and community collaboration can assist in the fight against crime.
