Youths arrested for petrol bombing police car at #HoerskoolOvervaal─── DANE BEISHEIM 15:57 Thu, 18 Jan 2018
A group of young people were arrested after 14:00 this afternoon when they attempted to set a police vehicle alight with a petrol bomb in front of the Hoërskool Overvaal in Vereeniging.
Police spokesperson, Lungelo Dlamini, confirmed the incident to OFM News. He says no injuries were reported and that the situation has since calmed down after the group of EFF protestors were dispersed. He could not confirm the exact number of arrested parties.
"They have been taken to the local police station for processing. At this stage I do not know the number of arrests,” Dlamini added.
Yesterday’s and today’s protests by the EFF follow in the wake of Judge Bill Prinsloo’s judgment on Monday wherein he set aside the Gauteng Education Department’s decision to admit 55 pupils to Hoërskool Overvaal, saying that the school has no capacity to receive the pupils, let alone to do so on such short notice and to effectively convert to a dual-medium school.
Yesterday, ten people were arrested for public violence after protest action outside the school.
