Five men in botched Reitz #FarmAttack to appear in court today | News Article

Bloemfontein - Five men involved in a botched house robbery on a farm outside Reitz last week will make their second appearance in the local Magistrate’s Court today.

This comes after Free State police arrested the fifth suspect - believed to have colluded with the other suspects – on Friday afternoon for possession of an illegal firearm.

Police spokesperson, Zweli Mohobeleli, says Masitafa Makawa, Tankiso Mofokeng, Mkhulu Sebatana, and Lebohang Mokoena, who are between the ages of 29 and 36, will be appearing on a charge of attempted house robbery, while Pule Moloi will appear on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Makawa, Mofokeng and Sebatana were arrested on a neighbouring farm shortly after the botched house robbery, last week Thursday, January 8th, following a search launched by police and farmers in the area.

Mohobeleli said more arrests were imminent at the time and all they could say was that investigations into the incident led police to Mokoena who is believed to have transported the three suspects on the day of the robbery.

He was arrested on Friday morning, January 9th, in Petsana township near Reitz. A Toyota conquest Mokoena is believed to have used to transport the three suspects was confiscated by police.

Mohobeleli says further investigation led to the arrest of the fifth suspect, Pule Moloi, who was also apprehended on Friday afternoon.

All five men appeared in the Reitz Magistrate's Court on Monday and the case was postponed to today.
