Five at large after Central Park robbery─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 20:06 Fri, 23 Feb 2018
Free State police are searching for five men in connection with the armed robbery of a retail store in the Bloemfontein CBD today.
Police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, says the five men, who did not even wear balaclavas , walked into the retail store, which mostly sells clothing, located in the Central Park Shopping Centre at around 17:00 and held the employees of the store at gunpoint.
Marope says the men instructed the employee responsible for the safe to open it, but she was unable to because of a “security delay mechanism”. He says the suspects proceeded to empty the cash registers and thereafter fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
“Upon exiting the store,” Marope said, “the suspects fired several warning shots before fleeing on foot. No-one was injured in the robbery.”
He adds there have been no arrests yet and requests anyone with information to contact Park Road Police Station.
The name of the retail store is known to OFM News and it is being withheld until management provides comment. No arrests have been made yet. A case of business robbery are being investigated. Marope requests that anyone with information should contact Park Road Police Station.
