#FShealthcrisis: Questions remain unanswered after budget vote | News Article

Questions regarding fruitless expenditure and alleged unaccounted millions by the Free State Department of Health remain answered.

This is according to opposition parties in the Free State Legislature.

Reacting to MEC Butana Komphela's speech on the 2018/19 budget vote, oppositions did not shy away from expressing their disappointment.

DA MPL, Mariette Pittaway, told the House that Komphela has failed to reply to written questions about money being spent on the Buthelezi Private Ambulance Services and why the department continues to renew their contract, despite complaints of inadequate service.

Pittaway told the House that the department recorded irregular expenditure of more than R3.4 billion in the 2016/17 fiscal year alone. This, coupled with the R620 million that the department has allegedly spent on the Buthelezi Ambulance Services since 2013.

The Department's spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, confirmed to OFM News last month that the department still has to settle an amount of approximately R8 million to the Mediosa company and the more than R10.4 billion budget will need to be used sparingly to meet all the increasing health demands in the province.
