This, as Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, investigates the role political figures played in the Vrede Dairy Project, as requested by the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Service. Her acting spokesperson, Oupa Segalwe, says the investigations seek to establish if there was any form of a relationship between the politicians and the suppliers that were appointed to implement the project. He says Mkhwebane will also look into whether the beneficiaries of this project suffered any prejudice as the result of how the project was implemented. Segalwe could, however, not specify when an investigative report on this matter can be expected….

It is alleged that more than R220 million earmarked to assist black farmers through this project was looted from the province, and over R30 millions of this money was used to fund the Gupta Sun City Wedding.

Earlier this year, the NPA’s Assets Forfeiture Unit’s application to have the Vrede Dairy seized, led to several raids including at Magashule’s offices in Bloemfontein.
