Four arrested in Hertzogville #FarmAttack─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 13:05 Sat, 28 Apr 2018
Four people have allegedly been arrested in connection with a farm attack that occurred today, outside Hertzogville in the Free State province.
Vice President of Free State Agriculture (FSA), Tommie Esterhuyse, told OFM News that six men in total, attacked Japie van der Berg and his wife, Emma van der Berg - both 75 years old - on their farm in the Langveld Farm District at about 06:00 this morning.
According to information, of the four men allegedly arrested, one was shot by Van Der Berg in the attack. Esterhuyse says two male suspects are still at large at the moment.
He says the elderly couple suffered head injuries in the attack and have been taken to a hospital for further medical care. According to information, they have been taken to a Bloemfontein hospital.
Esterhuyse says FSA’s rural safety plan has been activated and farmers are on the scene to carry out their duties, they are working in collaboration with police to find the remaining two suspects.
Free State police have confirmed that there was an attack, but are yet to confirm the arrests.
