One suspect at large in Hertzogville #FarmAttack─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 09:55 Sun, 29 Apr 2018
Free State police are looking for a man in connection with yesterday’s farm attack near Hertzogville.
This comes after the fifth assailant in the attack was apprehended by authorities yesterday afternoon.
Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, tells OFM News the two firearms stolen by the suspects at the property have not yet been recovered.
Yesterday morning, six men attacked Japie van der Berg and his wife Emma on their property located in the Langveld Farm District.
It is alleged that Japie managed to shoot one of the assailants in the leg during the attack. Police in collaboration with farmers from surrounding areas managed to subsequently apprehend four of the suspects.
Thakeng has confirmed the fifth suspect was arrested in the afternoon.
Vice President of Free State Agriculture (FSA) Tommie Esterhuyse told OFM News yesterday, the elderly couple had been taken to hospital for treatment.
Thakeng says the suspects will appear in the Hertzogville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
