Heidedal community leader, John de Bruin, urges all residents of the area to attend a meeting with the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Mayor Olly Mlamleli, regarding the allocation of sites today.

De Bruin says the meeting will take place at 14:00 in the afternoon at the Heide Primary School in Papers Street.

Today’s meeting comes after police and disgruntled residents squared off in Witherow Avenue over land grabs last week.

Mlamleli told OFM News at the National Freedom Celebrations in Bloemfontein on Friday that while she is for the redistribution of land without compensation, she does not condone residents occupying private land.

She was speaking in reference to the vacant property, located at the corner of Witherow Avenue and Papers Street, that Heidedal residents were demanding to occupy.

De Bruin says today’s meeting will afford residents an opportunity to air their grievances to Mlamleli in person.

He adds the community cannot occupy any piece of land, but does think the meeting will allow Mlamleli to update residents on the land issue.

Speaking on site allocations, De Bruin says the last time he spoke to the city manager, he said he would go to the town planning department to determine where there is land available for residents to occupy.
