NW Agriculture Department mum on Hawks raids | News Article

The North West Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ) has declined to comment on search and seizure raids, conducted by the Hawks today.

Spokesperson for the Agriculture Department in the province, Emelda Setlhako redirected OFM News’ enquiries to the Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, who did confirm the raids were being conducted today.

Mulaudzi said the Hawks obtained the search and seizure order yesterday for certain documents and electronic equipment, following preliminary investigations into allegations of corruption at the department. He says the probe kick-started in March 2018.

He says it boils down to issues of corruption ,but they are of the view that they are on the right track, further adding the bigger investigation will take some time to be finalised.

Mulaudzi further declined to comment on any links between today’s raids and allegations that former North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo gifted former president Jacob Zuma a herd of cattle worth R1,5 million, which was meant for emerging farmers in the province.

He says they cannot reveal any details into the investigation at the moment and adds the Hawks will make an announcement in due course.
