Free State legislature to discuss #VredeDairyProject following court ruling on #GuptaAssets | News Article

The Free State’s failed Vrede Dairy project will be under discussion at the provincial legislature joint committee sitting on Wednesday, days after it made national headlines following the Free State High Court ruling.

The High Court’s Judge Phillip Loubser on Monday ruled in favour of the Gupta family when he found that there was no reasonable basis to believe that the family members, associates, and businesses would be convicted on money-laundering and fraud linked to the alleged Vrede Dairy project.

Judge Loubser has set aside claims that the Gupta family members and businesses have benefited unlawfully from this money, which was banked in a pool account at the Gupta-linked bank - the Bank of Baroda.

Now that the family has won the legal battle against the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and had their multimillion rand assets unfrozen, questions regarding the more than R250 million earmarked to assist farmers through this project, which was looted from the province remains unanswered.
