After finally getting the chance to apply for bail, in his fourth attempt to do so, the accused killer of Louis Siemens ended up abandoning his bail application altogether.
The 36-year old Stanley Bakili, that was arrested in connection with the murder of the director of the CityMed-day hospital, Wednesday decided to abandon his bail application in the Bloemfontein Magistrates court. Bakili was arrested a few hours after Siemens was gunned down in the basement parking of the Preller Square shopping complex on May 10.
The bail proceedings finally got underway on Monday after numerous postponements. Bakili on Monday provided reasons to why he should be released on bail and added that he could afford bail of R5000. The state was opposed to the bail application and earlier indicated that the murder was premeditated.
The case was however postponed until 27 June for further investigation, while Bakili remains in custody.
