#NWHealthCrisis: Department might be on verge of resuscitation | News Article

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is in a bid to help the North West Health Department recuperate by offering their expertise.

The agency was called by the provincial government to come and restore the status quo in the ailing health department.

The department has been under administration following allegations of maladministration and corruption involving senior officials linked to multi-million rand deals.

The spokesperson of premier Job Mokgoro, Vuyisile Ngesi, told OFM News that the agency is expected to soon meet the premier during a re-scheduled meeting after he failed to attend the planned meeting on Monday.

"They do have expertise and experience in assisting, especially in matters of administration. We’ve got the World Health Organisation (WHO) as one of those agencies that are willing to come and assist us. You must know the state of health in the province - there has not been any work done in the past few months because of union striking. Therefore they are saying, 'look, we want to come and assist your province',” says Ngesi.

Ngesi further confirmed that they have roped in the WHO because of its expertise and also to make sure that the province is able to provide proper, quality health care services to communities across the province following administration woes.
