Cash-strapped NW Health department attend to students | News Article

The North West Health Department will attend to the needs of disgruntled nursing students.

This follows complaints from students regarding administrative issues at the Excelsius Nursing College, among others, stipends, accommodation and study material.

Last week, students told a community radio station in Klerksdorp about their frustrations, saying there is not enough room and stationery for them to attend classes.

Meanwhile, the departmental spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, told OFM News that they have been aware of the students’ issues for quite a while and said that the issues are being attended to by the department.

Lekgethwane says the college is under rehabilitation to improve the living conditions of the students.

He says last year the administration ran out of funds before they could complete the project.

“Sometime last year the department ran out of funds to complete the project because the project itself was funded by the national department of health. They withdrew the funding, so it only meant that only now, in this new financial year, the department was able to carry the project going forward. This has been explained to the students,” says Lekgethwane.
