Mangaung Metro Municipality is looking into more effective ways to get rid of trash in Bloemfontein.

The spokesperson of the municipality, Qondile Khedama, told OFM News that they are looking at different strategies for dumping sites. He explained they are relooking at how these areas are managed and trying to make them more economic.

Khedama says you cannot still in this day and age look at trash as a dump, you need to see it as the useful commodity that it is. He says they are looking into recycling and taking the reusable material to factories.

However, he says for all this to work the municipality needs a buy-in from the community who lives around the area to report any person who is not using the landfill site the way it should be used.

OFM News reported earlier that the Mangaung Metro Municipality, together with the MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport, have started a week-long clean-up campaign in an attempt to keep the city clean and the dumping site in the north was the starting point.

This comes about a month after the dumping site in the north of Bloemfontein was burning for almost five days and residents were concerned about their health.
