Police in the North West arrested 306 suspects for various offences during a two-day raid last week.

This is according to police spokesperson in the province, Amanda Funani, who said the arrests include 133 suspects held for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and common assault. Other arrests include 18 for robbery, 17 for malicious damage to property, 23 for theft, 4 for rape, 2 for murder and 38 for residential and business burglaries. Police said out of the 306 arrests, 64 were for crimes against women and children. The suspects were arrested at all seven policing clusters in the province. Most of them appeared at various courts within the province on Tuesday, 25 September 2018.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, applauded the detectives for the sterling job that they did in arresting the perpetrators. She said that they will definitely send a clear message that perpetrators have no place to hide in the province and that the long arm of the law will ensure that they are brought to book.
