This is according to the Head of the Department, Mokete Duma. He was reacting to a statement by MPLs that the committee is considering legal action to get COGTA MEC, Oupa Khoabane, and the Fezile Dabi District Municipality to appear before them.

Committee Chairperson, Neels van Rooyen, said during a press briefing that Khoabane was invited twice to come and address them on the volatile situation in the municipality, but sent apologies instead.

Duma, Khoabane’s head of department, said although the MEC could not attend on both occasions because of meetings that were scheduled well in advance, his department was represented. Duma said he attended yesterday’s meeting to discuss the state of the Fezile Dabi District Municipality together with officials from provincial treasury and gave a presentation on behalf of his department. 

The committee also indicated that it is going to commission a forensic investigation into the municipality.
