The African National Congress (ANC) in the North West is in Ventersdorp, on Sunday, to attend to the unrest that flared up in the town this week.

In a statement the party says the Provincial Co-ordinator, Keneetswe Mosenogi, Elections Head, Saliva Molapisi, and other deployees from the Provincial Task Team will be in the town, which together with Potchefstroom forms the JB Marks Municipality. The ANC says the delegation will meet with local business owners as well as community and religious leaders in an effort to quell the tension in the area.

The party further adds that it is concerned over the continued protest action in the JB Marks Municipality. The meeting is expected to get underway at 14:00 in the afternoon.

Protest action in the town flared up on Monday, October 14 over service delivery in the municipality. The town has since been brought to a complete halt with schools and businesses closing.

Eleven people were apprehended on Wednesday, October 10 and were eventually released out on bail of R 500 this past Friday.

Following the amalgamation of Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom to form JB Marks, protests have flared up in the area, with many saying the amalgamation is to blame. Yesterday OFM News reported that the North West town has normalised somewhat with traffic flowing freely between Ventersdorp and other places this weekend, specifically on the N14.

Chairperson of the Road Incident Management System in the Kenneth Kaunda District, Vusi Mohlakore, said only barricades remained, which were being cleared up by officials at that stage.
