A 36-year-old man was sentence to a life imprisonment at the Klerksdorp Regional Court for rape, North West police said on Wednesday.
Captain Aafje Botma said Gabriel Mogale was sentenced on Tuesday, for raping a 79-year-old woman in Jouberton near Klerksdorp on November 8, 2015, while the elderly woman was alone at home.
Mogale forced her to a room and raped her.
"Mogale was seen by the victim’s son leaving the house. The victim informed her son that the accused raped her. The police were informed and arrested the accused shortly after the incident," said Botma.
North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant Genera, Baile Motswenyane, welcomed a life imprisonment.
