Kathu protests not over despite calm─── PULANE CHOANE 10:35 Sat, 17 Nov 2018
Calm has been restored to the Kathu community at the Gamagara Local Municipality in the Northern Cape.
This comes after tempers flared yesterday as residents took to the municipal offices to get answers as to why they have not had water for more than two weeks now.
Police spokesperson in the province, Sergio Kock, told OFM News that while the residents have ceased their protests, they have indicated that unless they receive answers from the municipal management, they will resume with their protests next week.
The municipality is one of the troubled ones in the province with it currently owing over R14 million on its water bill, while it also owes Eskom over R65 million.
Meanwhile, Kock said no arrests were made yesterday and no injuries were reported.
OFM News could not reach the municipal spokesperson, Kamogelo Semamai, for comment, despite numerous attempts.
