Two NW officials suspended over R240m

Two NW officials suspended over R240m | News Article

Two officials from the North West Provincial Government have been suspended for the alleged looting of close to R240 million.

This comes after the Auditor General issued a report on the NEPO Data Dynamics contract, which was worth R12 million but the AG found that payments amounted to more than 20 times the initial contract agreement between 2016 and 2019.

This contract was to modernise the ICT system of the Office of the Premier as well as the entire North West Provincial Government.

Premier Job Mokgoro made this damning revelation in a statement issued by his office yesterday.

The implicated officials are said to be Chief Director of Communications, Brian Setswambung, and the Chief Director of the Government Information Technology Office, Mothusi Toka.

Setswambung was former Premier Supra Mahumapelo’s spokesperson.

Following the incriminating AG report, NEPO Data Dynamics was notified by Mokgoro’s office about the decision to terminate its contract with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Mokgoro added that investigations are still ongoing, and his office has now turned its attention to those who also may have played a role in the saga.

Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, said that those that are currently in the employ of the provincial government as well as those that might have left the provincial government but were employed at the time the contract was in place will also be scrutinised.

Setswambung and Toka will now face disciplinary hearings where they will have to answer for themselves what their respective roles in this alleged looting of state resources were.

Mokgoro took over as the premier of the province in June earlier this year, after Mahumapelo was forced to resign.
