#PrellerSquareShooting: Bail applications postponed | News Article

Bail proceedings for three of the three men accused of being involved in the murder of Bloemfontein businessman, Louis Siemens, have been postponed in the Local Magistrate’s Court.

This after the matter was postponed last week Friday - a day after the fourth accused, Xolisile Mbebetho, pleaded guilty to pulling the trigger that ended Siemens’ life. On November 8 he was sentenced to 22 years in prison by the Free State High Court.

Today's court proceedings have shed more light on the alleged corrupt relationship between accused number one, businessman Stanley Bakili, and accused number two, a Bayswater police detective, Molebatsi Mogoera.

It is alleged that Mogoera and Bakili met shortly after the death of Siemens and that Mogoera had attended the crime scene where Siemens was gunned down in the basement parking area of Preller Square. It is further alleged that he did not follow all due processes as per the SAPS procedures.

Captain Moeketsi Lisiba of the Bayswater Police Station, where Mogoera works, has been called to take the stand after Mogoera told the court that Lisiba was forced to submit a false statement about him being corrupt, misusing a state vehicle, and not following procedures. Lisiba has, however, refuted these claims and said he does not know if Mogoera is corrupt, but testified that Mogoera had previously been in charge of a domestic violence case where Bakili was implicated.

Bakili is facing additional charges which relate to a conspiracy to commit murder, not regarding Siemens, but regarding his ex-girlfriend. The court heard testimony from Lisiba that the domestic case, which was opened at their station, was later withdrawn as Bakili’s former girlfriend refused to cooperate, stating that Mogoera and the investigative officer had a close relationship with Bakili.

The matter was postponed to 23 November 2018. All three accused remain in custody.
