The ANC in the North West has given the Premier of the Provincial Government, Job Mokgoro, two days to do a cabinet reshuffle.

Mokgoro’s spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, said based on this, Mokgoro is currently making an analysis of all the MECs in his cabinet and these departments. The outcomes of this analysis review will inform the decision on whether to reshuffle the executive or not. This comes after the ANC in the province announced that it would immediately recall six of its mayors at a meeting in Potchefstroom’s KB Marks Municipality yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ngesi said that the Premier is confident that the party in the province will also replace these mayors with more capable candidates in due course in an effort to enhance service delivery in the province which was earlier this year placed under administration. Four from the said mayors will be with regards to their implication in the VBS Mutual Bank saga, which saw the investment of more than R314 million from municipalities in the province in the now liquidated bank. These municipalities included the Madibeng, Moretele, Mahikeng and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati municipalities. The party also stated that it believes that criminal charges should be instituted among those implicated and those that were responsible for making these investments, which according to Municipal Financial Management Act are illegal.

Among those also set to be fired are mayors from the Maquassie Hills, Noni Kgabi, and Mamusa mayor, Aaron Motswana. Kgabi and Mamusa, unlike the others, will be fired for a lack of good and clean governance. Meanwhile, Keneetswe Mosenogi, convenor of the Provincial Task Team which was established in September earlier this year, said in a statement issued by the party that these sackings are part of an effort to fight corruption, improve service delivery and restore public confidence in the ruling party ahead of the 2019 elections.
