New skills programme to be launched in Thabo Mofutsanyana | News Article
Deputy Minister of the Higher Education Department Buti Manamela

Deputy Minister of the Higher Education Department, Buti Manamela, will launch a project that aims to benefit over 3000 learners in the eastern Free State.

This is according to Departmental media liaison officer, William Sono, who said that Manamela will take to Phuthaditjaba tomorrow to launch the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality Project, which aims to address the skills shortage, unemployment, and poverty within the Thabo Mofutsanyana District and its local municipalities. The project is the culmination of a partnership between the municipality and the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) that dates back to 2016 and it aims to promote artisanal trades as a viable form of education and employment to the youth in the province.

This partnership, which was formulated in 2016, aims to increase the skillset of young, uneducated persons in the province by also equipping them with a recognized qualification in terms of the National Qualification Frameworks (NQF). The focus will, therefore, be on providing education and training to learners interested in professions considered to have scarce skills that the country and province is currently in dire need of.

Those participating in the program will receive training in the following trades: Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Tilling, Bricklaying, Painting, Building and Civil Construction, Supervision of Construction Process, Health and Safety and Construction contracting. This event will take place on Thursday morning at the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality Offices.
