Accused in Christmas Day crimes to appear in NW Courts | News Article

Three men are expected to make their first appearances, in two North West Magistrate’s Courts today, over crimes allegedly committed on Christmas Day.

One of the suspects, a 23-year-old man, is facing murder and assault charges after he allegedly stabbed 27-year old Olefile Leeuw to death and seriously wounded a second unnamed man, in his thirties, in a scuffle that occurred in Lokgabeng village, in Taung, at around 05:00 in the morning. Police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, says it is believed that the three men were arguing when the incident occurred. The unnamed man was admitted to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the incident. The 23-year-old murder and assault suspect was tracked by the police after the matter was reported to them. The suspect will be appearing before the Taung Magistrate Court today. In a separate incident, two men, both aged 27-years old, were arrested for a house robbery on Christmas Day.

The suspects are alleged to have broken into the home of a 28-year old unnamed victim in Freemanville, in Klerksdorp, in the early hours of Christmas morning. Myburgh says the victim was asleep at the time. The suspects made their way to the victim’s room and began trying to force the door open. While this was happening, the victim woke up and hid behind his wardrobe. Once the suspects made their way inside the room, they stole money and cell phones belonging to the victim. The police spokesperson says authorities were able to arrest the suspects and recover the stolen property with the assistance of community members. They will be appearing in the Klerksdorp Magistrate Court today.
